What does this mean for us?
Well, we at Healthy Homes would love to have a Spring Picnic!
But so do those pesky ants! Help keep your living space Ant Free by following the tips below:
1. Take away their food
Ants LOVE people and pet food.
Seal all dry food in airtight containers.
Regularly sweep and vacuum all areas where food debris is found.
Take out garbage regularly
Do not leave any dirty dishes out.
Regularly wash down counters, appliances, tables, and anywhere food is found.
Clean the outside of food containers-removing any sticky or obvious food residue.
*Tip: Use a small amount of vinegar when cleaning. The smell of vinegar is a natural deterrent.
2. Close the Ants' doors
Ants use many "doors" to enter your home. These doors are likely small cracks in and around your home--generally located near food sources. Look around your kitchen, dining area and pet feeders. When you find an ant door use a sealer such as caulk, putty, glue or plaster to close these doors.
3. Stop using over the counter Ant Sprays
These products provide a short term solution for your pest problem--but wreak havoc on long term efforts. While these products kill ants quickly, they don't provide a means to treat the real problem--which is the nest.
4. Still having problems?
You likely will need the assistance of a Pest Control Specialist to eradicate your ant invasion. The specialist has access to treatment methods that are unavailable to the everyday consumer. The Pest Control Specialist can work with you to design a plan to eradicate and prevent further invasion of these pesky pests.
